KSU Writing Centers Portal: Great Writing Resources!
KSU Writing Centers Hub: KSU Writing Centers' Home.
The Kent Trumbull Learning Center supports an Online Writing Lab (OWL) as a component of its tutoring services. The OWL's primary focus is to offer students an opportunity to interact with English tutors and receive constructive input on writing assignments and related questions when time does not permit them to visit the Learning Center in person.
All Kent Trumbull students can use the OWL. We encourage Kent Trumbull English faculty to either visit the Learning Center in person or send mail to the Academic Services Coordinator to give tutors specific instructions for replying to a particular assignment or student.
The best way to submit your paper to the OWL is to attach a copy of the paper (as a Word document) to an e-mail addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Include in the body of the e-mail:
The course name
Details about the assignment ***Important***
Details on how you would like the tutor to assist you (we are not a proof-reading service)
If the OWL staff feels that they need additional information before they can respond, they will let the student know immediately.
The Academic Services Coordinator will receive mail sent to this address, and will assign each submission to a member of the OWL staff of English tutors for response. The Academic Services Coordinator will then send a short reply to the student, informing him or her that the paper has been assigned to an OWL tutor. We will respond in as timely manner as possible.
The OWL staff will respond to papers by including the original text in their reply message, which will:
allow tutors to insert comments directly into the text (in separate paragraphs set off from the original text and surrounded by ****)
allow students to view both their own text and tutor comments on screen when they receive the return message
When any OWL staff member replies to student papers or questions, he or she will forward a copy of the reply to the Academic Services Coordinator, to be kept in a secure file.
