Posted Apr. 11, 2013

On Thursday, April 18, Karmaloop’s Verge Campus 2013 Spring Tour will take place at Kent State University’s FlashFest. The lineup for the 2013 FlashFest features Kendrick Lamar, Steve Aoki, Bad Rabbits, and 5 & A Dime.  Sponsors include Karmaloop, Neff Headwear, and eMuze. The event begins at noon on the Student Green and the main stage starting at 6:00 p.m. on Manchester Field. Balancing the harsh realities of growing up in Compton with his father’s eclectic, escapist taste in music, Kendrick Lamar’s own influences, ranging from the Isley Brothers to Tha Dogg Pound, helped shape his early output of three independent studio albums, earning the young emcee praise from hip hop vets such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Lil Wayne, The Game, & Scott Storch. Lamar’s October 2012 major label release, good kid, m.A.A.d city, debuted at #2 on the US Billboard 200 chart and showcased an impressive lineup of producers (Pharrell, Just Blaze, T-Minus) and features (Drake, Dr. Dre, Jay Rock). The album was met with universal acclaim and to date has earned a Gold Certification from the RIAA.

Steve Aoki, Founder of Dim Mak Records and the label head behind many influential artists (Bloc Party, The Bloody Beetroots, The Gossip), has established himself as a pivotal player in entertainment over the past 15 years. As an Event & Nightclub Promoter, Aoki spawned several residencies in his home of Southern California, which saw legendary debut performances from artists such as Lady Gaga, Skrillex, M.I.A., and Justice. In addition to remixing some of music’s biggest names (Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, The Killers, Weezer) and averaging nearly 250 tour dates worldwide per year, Aoki released his star-studded debut album Wonderland (Will.I.Am, Rivers Cuomo, Lil Jon, LMFAO, Travis Barker) to critical acclaim, earning a spot on the iTunes Top 10 the day of its release as well as a 2013 Grammy Nomination for Best Dance Album.
