Wellness Fair on Salem CampusPosted Mar. 19, 2014
Spring Break is typically thought of as a time to take a break from school and the stresses that come with being a student or instructor. For most, however, a week-long break may not be enough. Hence, the Wellness Fair on Wednesday, April 2 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Student Lounge.
During that time, students and staff can speak to representatives from area agencies who will offer information about mental health, drug and alcohol addictions, mental illness and other behavioral health issues.
“There will be an abundance of information related to wellness and ailments of mental health and mental illness,” explained Katherine Vance-Righetti, the mental health counselor for the Salem and East Liverpool campuses.
“Anyone who completes a quick survey and a self-assessment will receive refreshments and a goody bag of promotional items. We know the students and staff are busy, so the activities should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.”
Aside from Kent State University at Salem, other agency sponsors include the Family Recovery Center’s Young Adult Alcohol Prevention Initiative, the Salem Regional Medical Center’s Behavioral Medicine and Wellness Center and Ohio Programs for Campus Safety and Mental Health.
As Vance-Righetti noted, March is National Problem Gambling Month and April is National Alcohol Awareness Month. The Wellness Fair will help call attention to each issue.
