Domestic Violence month activities announced
Posted Sep. 30, 2011In recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness month, Kent State University at Trumbull has an entire slate of activities planned, courtesy of the Office of Student Activities.

- Silent Witnesses
Date: Entire month of October
Location: Various around campus.
Description: A family from Warren that fell victim to domestic violence is memorialized through the creation of life-sized, wooden silhouettes. The family's story is told through written displays attached to each silhouette. This display will be moving around campus each week during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
- T-Shirt Clothesline
Date: Entire month of October
Location: Technology Building (1st floor) & Classroom Building
Description: T-shirts created by local children that were victims of Domestic Violence will be hung on clothesline throughout the campus. Each T-shirt is an artistic creation of the reactions, thoughts, and feelings of how a young child feels Displays can be found in the Technology Building and Classroom Administration Building.
- Someplace Safe, Inc. Cell Phones Drive
Date: Entire month of October
Location: Various around campus
Description: Have an old cell phone that you haven't used in a while? If so, consider donating to Someplace Safe, Inc. Phones collected are used as emergency 911 phones for anyone that seeks shelter at Someplace Safe, Inc. Any extra phones are given to an agency that gives Someplace Safe, Inc. money.
- Purple Light Sale
Dates: October 4 & 5
Time: 1 p.m.-2 p.m.
Location: Lower Commons & Student Union
Description: Purple is the color associated with domestic violence. Anyone is able to buy a purple light and display it in his/her home to show that they are in support of Domestic Violence Awareness month. Someplace Safe, Inc. encourages those that purchase the lights to put them on their garage or porch for all to see.
- Bake Sale
Dates: October 18-19
Time: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Location: Lower Commons (Classroom Building)
Description: Homemade baked goods will be on sale. All proceeds are donated to Someplace Safe, Inc.
- Domestic Violence Awareness Month Speakers
Date: October 27
Time: 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
Location: Student Union (Classroom Building)
Description: 74-percent of Americans know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence. On October 27, Kent State Trumbull's own Angell Lipps will be speaking about domestic violence and share her gripping story of survival and perseverance. Additionally, Darlene McCue from Someplace Safe, Inc. will be speaking about her experience with domestic violence. Don't miss out on two of the most informative and moving stories you'll ever hear.
