Posted Feb. 24, 2012

The Garden by Emmalyn RuckerFebruary 24, 2012 - Emmalyn Rucker, senior fine arts major, was awarded first place in the 6th annual Honors College/College of the Arts Student Art Show.  Rucker's painting "The Garden" was chosen as the best piece of student work.

This collaboration between the Honors College and the College of the Arts is an opportunity for some of the most talented undergraduates in the College of the Arts to showcase their creative work.  The Art Show occurs simultaneously with student art shows in the School of Art Gallery and the Downtown Gallery as a community-wide celebration of undergraduate student artists.

The Art Show was judged by Alexandra Nicholis of the Massillon Museum in Massillon, Ohio and Jeff Ingram of the Standing Rock Cultural Arts Center in Kent, Ohio.  A total of seven Honors students submitted their work with twelve pieces submitted for consideration.

Rachel Stadtler, senior crafts major, was awarded second place for her sculpture called "Flounder."

A team of students was responsible for organizing the show including Rachel Stadtler (senior curator), Caitlin Binkhorst (junior curator), and Virginia Marie Dionisio (designer).

Prizes for the Art Show were donated by All Media Art.  Sponsors of the Art Show included All Media Art, Anderson Turner, Alexandra Nicholis, Jeffrey Ingram, and the College of the Arts.

The Honors College/College of the Arts Art Show began when the Honors College moved to the Stopher-Johnson facility in 2006.  Materials used to display student art were obtained through a Portz Grant awarded by the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).

Student work will remain on display in the Honors College reception area until March 16, 2012.  The Honors College office is located on the ground floor of Stopher Hall.  Visitors may view the student work between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
