The Virginia Hamilton Conference is the longest-running event in the United States to focus exclusively on multicultural literature for children and young adults. This year’s conference, which takes place on Thursday and Friday, April 4 and 5, features speakers and workshops addressing “Dreams and Promises: Multicultural Literature and the Common Core.” Guest speakers include the remarkable Angela Johnson, the talented Gary Schmidt and the amazing illustrator Yuyi Morales.
The Virginia Hamilton Conference is pleased to be a forum that brings together renowned national and local writers, illustrators, librarians, teachers, students and scholars and showcases some of the country’s top talents in multicultural literature for youth. The conference is held each April at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and is sponsored by the Kent State School of Library and Information Science and the College of Education, Health and Human Services and through the Office of Continuing and Distance Education.
