2013 Spring Commencement Speaker is Dr. Merle D. GriffPosted Apr. 26, 2013
Kent State University at Stark proudly announces Merle D. Griff, Ph.D., the founder and CEO of SarahCare Senior Solutions, as the speaker for the 2013 Spring Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony, to be held on Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall in Canton, is a ticketed event. Nearly 160 graduate candidates, receiving bachelor’s, master’s and associate degrees, will participate in this semester’s commencement exercises. As one of the nation’s leading authorities on senior care, Griff is a successful business executive who has led SarahCare® to its current position as one of the fastest growing platforms in this new and rapidly growing industry. She is the immediate past chair of the National Adult Day Services Association, as well as a member of numerous national committees and advisory boards, including the task force on adult day health services for the Assistant Secretary of Program and Evaluation in the Department on Aging and the International Advisory Council for the Council for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Griff has served as a delegate to the last two White House Conferences on Aging.
Griff is the author of LinkAges, a book on intergenerational programs. She has researched and developed two family therapy techniques that are being used throughout South America, England, Australia and Eastern Europe. She has also written numerous articles and case studies that have appeared in such publications as the Harvard Business Review and the New York Times. Griff has been invited to present at international conferences, such as the World Congress of Family and Child and the Institute for Educateurs. She is co-host of the radio show, Wriggling in the Middle, which addresses the dilemmas and sometimes the delights of being part of the sandwich generation and responsible for the care of multiple generations. Her blog by the same name has won three national awards, including the National Media Award from Caregiver.com
