Tunnel of Oppression now on display at Kent State Trumbull
Posted Feb. 18, 2011
Generated and supported by the Kent State University at Trumbull Diversity Council, the 2011 "Tunnel of Oppression" is now on display in the Theatre/Library Building.
The tunnel will be on view from February 17 through early April.
The purpose of such a project, according to Council members, is to evoke thought by removing spectators from their "comfort zones" and thereby "causing them to change their preconceived ideas about hate".
The 2011 tunnel is the third such display to appear on the Kent State Trumbull campus and addresses the "Five Faces of Oppression" which include exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism and violence.
The basis for this year's theme comes from the Iris Marion Young work, "Five Faces of Oppression" (for a summary, see: http://www.grassrootspolicy.org/node/85).
