International Education Week activities set

The Kent State University at Trumbull Office of Student Activities has announced a roster of special events for students, staff, faculty and the community to help celebrate International Education Week from November 14-18.

Activities will include guest speakers, select films from The Global Film Initiative's "Global Lens 2010" film series and an international food menu.

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

The schedule for the International Education Week activities is:

Monday, Nov. 15:

  • Dr. George Garrison, professor of Pan-African Studies and Dr. Gary Padak, former dean of Undergraduate Studies will present, "Haiti: Past, Present and Future", in the Lower Commons of the Classroom/Administration Building from Noon-1 p.m.
  • Italian food will be sampled beginning at 1 p.m. in the Lower Commons of the Classroom/Administration Building, courtesy of Saratoga's.
  • The film, "Ocean of an Old Man" (India, 2008), will be screened at 3:30 p.m. in Room 202 of the Classroom/Administration Building.

Tuesday, Nov. 16:

  • Kent State Trumbull student, Wei Zhang, will present, "China: It's People and Their Place within American Culture", in the Lower Commons of the Classroom/Administration Building. Zhang will address topics including the daily life of common Chinese people and how Chinese culture and lifestyles differ from their American counterparts.
  • Chinese food will be sampled beginning at 1 p.m. in the Lower Commons of the Classroom/Administration Building, courtesy of Hibachi Sushi.

Wednesday, Nov. 17:

  • Greek food will be sampled beginning at 1 p.m. in the Lower Commons of the Classroom/Administration Building, courtesy of Saratoga's.
  • The film, "Ordinary People" (Serbia, 2009), will be screened at 3:30 p.m. in Room 202 of the Classroom/Administration Building.

Thursday, Nov. 18:

  • Mexican food will be sampled beginning at 1 p.m. in the Lower Commons of the Classroom/Administration Building, courtesy of Saratoga's.
  • The film, "My Tehran for Sale" (Iran, 2009), will be screened at 5 p.m. in Room 202 of the Classroom/Administration Building.
