Gallery 6000 Opens the Picture This ExhibitPosted Sep. 9, 2013
Kent State University at Stark is proud to host the Gallery 6000 exhibit, entitled Picture This. Gallery 6000 is a collaboration between local artists and Kent State Stark, showcasing art of various media throughout the year. The exhibit, which is open to the public, is displayed in The University Center Dining Room, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township.
Picture This features the captivating photographic and digital visions from accomplished artists Jerry Domokur, Stephen McNulty, Su Nimon, Mandy Altimus Pond and Michele Waalkes. The exhibit will be on display from September 19 through November 8, 2013. Most of the displayed pieces are for sale. The curator of Gallery 6000, Tom Wachunas, is an artist and adjunct instructor at Kent State Stark.
An opening reception will take place on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The University Center. Please RSVP to Janet at 330-244-3513 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The reception is free and open to the public. Representatives of the press are encouraged to attend.
The abstract digital manipulations by Domokur are intricately layered compositions that magically evoke both mechanical and organic structures.
The stunning photographs by McNulty are a brilliant witness to the power and beauty of nature, delivering a vital message of stewardship and awareness of awe-inspiring wilderness.
Nimon’s original photographs of local, often iconic architectural landmarks are digitally processed to reduce detail, yet dramatically reveal fascinating nuances of mood and structure.
The photographs by Altimus Pond reflect what she calls “conceivable fantasies.” With real, recognizable elements (people, costumes, locations), she creates highly intriguing contexts and dream worlds.
Waalkes transfers her contemplative and haunting photographs of natural and architectural settings on to sheer fabric and other materials, creating visual metaphors for life’s journey.
