Victimology students lending a hand to area agencies

Posted Apr. 1, 2011

In conjunction with National Crime Victims' Right Week (April 10-16), students of Dr. Mary Wilson's spring 2011 Victimology class will be collecting items to aid a trio of Trumbull County agencies and the victims and families which they serve.

This semester, Wilson's students were tasked with completing a service learning project on remedying the plight of area crime victims. Students designated a threesome of agencies – Someplace Safe, Rape Crisis Program and Trumbull County Job & Family Service – which they would assist; visiting each agency to gather information on the type of services that each provided; types of crime victims they worked with; funding sources and needs of those agencies.

A class discussion on how to assist the agencies generated a list of items to be collected during the designated week and donated thereafter. Those items include household cleaning supplies, non-perishable food items, children's craft items, sweatshirts and sweatpants and Easter basket items.

Donation bins will be placed outside Dr. Wilson's office (174, Link Building), the Lower Commons of the Classroom Building, as well as the lobbies of the Workforce Development and Technology buildings beginning Thursday, April 7.
