Do I ask someone to be my note-taker, or will SDS hire one for me?

After you have given your accommodation letters to your instructors:

• Returning students should ask another student to be a note-taker.

• For first-year students, instructors will inform the class that someone needs a note-taker and will ask for volunteers.

Who is a note-taker?

Note-takers are students employed by the university. This is a paid position. Students interested in employment as note-takers must come to SDS and fill out an application and a Student Appointment form.

How do I get my notes?

• Contact SDS to get your note-taker's name and contact information.

• You and your note-taker should make arrangements to exchange notes.

• SDS provides free copying services for note-takers! If SDS copies the notes, you will pick up your notes at the circulation desk in the Library.

What if there's a problem with my note-taker?

If at any time you feel that quality notes are not being provided in a timely manner, YOU must call your note-taker. If the problem cannot be resolved, inform your note-taker that you will be finding a new note-taker, and inform SDS immediately. It is your responsibility to find a new note-taker.

What if I can't or don't pick up my notes?

If you habitually fail to pick up your materials, the note-taking accommodation may be terminated by SDS. If you feel you no longer need the service, please inform SDS immediately.
